Community Conversation and Lunch at Colombo Social

Inner West for Refugees in collaboration with the Jesuit Refugee Service invites you to a lunchtime of mutual sharing and engagement with people seeking asylum at Colombo Social restaurant. You can buy tickets here.

Colombo Social is more than a restaurant. It’s a social enterprise which provides employment and training opportunities for people seeking asylum, while serving fresh, soulful food in a convivial and colourful setting. Enjoy delicious Sri Lankan and fusion cuisine straight from Amma’s cookbook.

Hear from two people with lived experience of seeking asylum. Thanush is a human rights activist who came to Australia after having to flee Sri Lanka. When arriving in Australia by boat he was put in indefinite detention, including time on Manus Island. Magdalene is from Sierra Leone and will share her experience of seeking asylum in Australia.

Suzanne Waldron will take us through interview style conversations to delve into ways each of us can make a difference in our daily lives.  Suzanne will help you to learn about a range of organisations and opportunities to progress human rights. You will leave with a full heart and a head full of ways your actions can make a difference.

Ticket value is $70. The generosity of Club Ashfield, Suzanne Waldron and Colombo Social makes it possible to offer this exceptional discounted deal.   Drinks can be purchased at the venue.

Photos will be taken on the day for promotional purposes.  If you don't want your photo taken and published please let the organisers know on the day.
